Vehicles in Germany's City Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for tips.

A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him speechless and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
